The PMI-Pittsburgh Chapter is seeking volunteers for the following roles. Volunteering for your local chapter is an ideal way to become involved, to earn PDU's toward your continued PMP certification, and to reestablish contacts throughout the project management community.

 

Program Coordinator

The role and responsibilities of the Programs Coordinator is an appointed position that reports to Mike Rapach, VP of Programs. The responsibilities are:

  • Lead effort to obtain qualified speakers for interesting & educational programs
  • Establish meeting locations/arrangements for monthly Chapter meetings
  • Provide timely information to VP of Communications & Publicity to advertise events
  • Submit email note to Email Coordinator to send reminder of meeting to membership via email distribution list
  • Obtain feedback on meetings from members including quality of programs, facilities, etc., enter data into a spreadsheet and produce pivot table reports
  • Obtain electronic copies of presentation materials (i.e. bio, abstract & presentation slides) and forward to the webmaster for posting on the web site
  • Produce a schedule of programs for upcoming meetings a minimum of six months in advance
  • Increase attendance at Pittsburgh PMI Chapter meetings due to high quality of programs

      Represent the Pittsburgh PMI Chapter IT LIG to other organizations and companies having interest in IT Project management

      Interface with and lead tasks for the PMI IS SIG on issues on national/international and regional interest, i.e. PMP CAQ for IT Projects, IT standards development, PMBOK section extensions.

      Interface with PMI Pittsburgh Chapter Meetings Chair and other Chapter volunteers

Healthcare SIG

      Plan meetings and presentations

      Recruit qualified speakers

      Host meetings and presentations

      Represent the Pittsburgh PMI Chapter Healthcare SIG to other organizations and companies having interest in IT Project management

      Interface with and lead tasks for the PMI Healthcare SIG on issues on national/international and regional interest, i.e standards development, PMBOK section extensions.

      Interface with PMI Pittsburgh Chapter Meetings Chair and other Chapter volunteers

Financial Services SIG

      Recruit qualified speakers

      Host meetings and presentations

      Represent the Pittsburgh PMI Chapter Financial Services SIG to other organizations and companies having interest in IT Project management

      Interface with and lead tasks for the PMI Financial Services SIG on issues on national/international and regional interest, i.e standards development, PMBOK section extensions.

      Interface with PMI Pittsburgh Chapter Meetings Chair and other Chapter volunteers

      Establish and direct an annual awards program to show honor and distinction for professional accomplishments and contributions to the chapter.

Career Connection

      Establish and execute a process for connecting PMI members who are job seekers with job providers.  Could include hosting a periodic job fair.

Community Connection

      Establish and execute a process to foster partnerships between non-profit organizations and the PMI membership.

Corporate Connection

      Establish and execute a plan to acquire corporate sponsorship of chapter events.  The plan must be reviewed and approved annually by the board.

Library Committee

      Establish and execute a plan to establish and maintain a library of project management-related materials that could be utilized by chapter members.

Social Committee

      Establish and direct periodic social events to provide networking opportunities and foster camaraderie within the membership.

      Update the Registration form, make copies, and distribute

      Post the Registration form on the Website, update the website registration webpage content

      Field questions from potential attendees, manage registration process

      Accumulate deposits, coordinate with Chapter Treasurer

      Decide upon Seminar Reference Material, order materials from PMI

      Arrange for reproduction of student course materials

      Select site for Review Sessions, coordinate direct billing with Chapter Treasurer

      Make arrangements for laptops, projectors, screens and other equipment,  coordinate billing with Chapter Treasurer

      Distribute all materials to students

      Host all review sessions, collect student surveys, collate and distribute survey data

      Generate certificates of attendance for all students, generate certificates of appreciation for all presenters

      Attend all review sessions for Quality Review purposes, formulate update strategy upon completion of sessions

      Develop and distribute email notices about chapter events.

Newsletter

      Published monthly (September through June).

      Contains 1-2 articles pertinent to project management or PMI.

      Contains boilerplate (programs schedule, contacts, etc.).

      Investigate feasibility of charging for advertisements in the newsletter.

      Identify best practices.

Web

1-2

      Perform ongoing maintenance.

      Perform quality assurance.

      Identify best practices.

      Determine cost/benefit of PMI using paid advertising channels to increase membership and attendance at chapter events.

      Make recommendations to VP of Communications and Publicity and Board.

Articles

      Develop and submit information for publication in PMI periodicals and local and regional publications.  Likely topics would be our chapter events and chapter purpose, goals, and organization.

      Develop and place notices of chapter events in local newspapers, newsletters and online forums.

      Maintain chapter brochure.
